Walnut Tree House is possibly the oldest property in Rustington dating from the 15th Century. Until the fifties a working farm but slowly the land was sold for development. Originally a medieval timber frame hall of 3 bays. Subsequently the roof was altered, and in Georgian times a new front door and portico added. About 100 years ago the house was refaced in flint when 2 inglenook fireplaces were added.
It was extended in 1683 and again at the turn of the 20th century. In late Victorian times the bay windows were added at the front and the leaded light windows. In about 1910 the house was renovated and 2 mill stones from the demolished Rustington Windmill were placed as fire hearths. Unusually, both inglenooks are faced with original delft tiles depicting religious scenes.
Walnut Tree House lies behind a high flint wall and is accessed by a private brick driveway. It is conveniently located within the old part of the village, being only two minute's walk to the local, The Lamb Pub, and three minutes to the thriving local shopping centre. It is also only 500 yards to the sea.
The house was divided into 2 semi-detached 4 bedroom houses 25 years ago and it is the older part that is let.
Today's owners bought Walnut Tree House as a family home in 1983. Three generations of our family have lived here and the older generation still live in the newer part of the property. It is still considered the family home and as the owners live away, the well equipped house is set up for their visits and for rental holiday guests.
The accommodation consists of three reception rooms, four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Walnut Tree sleeps 8 in comfort with a further 2 on a bed settee and a cot and high chair are also available when needed. The drive has room to park 2 or 3 cars.
